You will always find a warm and friendly welcome
at Lowther Guest House, being the most centrally situated guest house in Buxton,
we are only moments away from the town centre, Market Place, Opera House and
Pavillion gardens - yet you will find us on a quiet side road with private
parking for all our guests' cars.

THE TOWN OF BUXTON
Buxton’s history as a spa town began long ago
when the Romans built a settlement here to take advantage of the ‘health giving’
waters and thermal springs. Mary, Queen of Scots during her long periods of
imprisonment visited Buxton several times in the late 16th century hoping to
cure her rheumatism.
In the early 1870’s Buxton seemed to grow and expand into the well-known Victorian spa town that we still enjoy today.
Buxton holds two outdoor markets every week and like most towns offers pedestrianised shopping facilities in Spring Gardens which is so near to Lowther Guest House, you may as well leave your car and walk!
