Introduction


The house was built in 1879 and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests, there are some period features which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.
The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions, requirements or needs, please call or email us and we will endeavour to help.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities


  • Sign in driveway displays name and contact number.
  • Please advise us of your expected arrival time so that we are here to welcome you.
  • If requested we will assist guests with their luggage.
  • Large, level tarmaced drive with parking for 4/5 cars. During the hours or darkness the drive is lit and the gate closed.
  • There is unlimited free road-side parking outside the front of the house.
  • Paved gated path from pavement to front door has a gradient with a property dividing rail which could be used as a hand rail (H100-112cm).
  • On arrival guests are escorted to their allocated room and our facilities explained.
  • The nearest bus-stop is on the Market Place. All buses stop there. It is a 3 minute walk.
  • The train station is 10-15 minutes walk.
  • Public Transport Numbers - Buses: 0871 200 2233. Trains: 08457 484950.
  • Manchester Airport is approximately 45-60 minutes by car. There is an excellent, inexpensive bus service which runs to and from the airport frequently thoughout the day and evening.

  • Bikes can be stored in our secure garage. Bike hire is available locally. Please ask.
  • A varied selection of restaurants are located on and around the Market Place.
  • Convenience shops are located on the Market Place and the Spring Gardens Pedestrianised Centre (a 3-4 minute walk).
  • Nearest Mobility Shops are in Macclesfield and Stockport. Please ask for details. Locally there is a Red Cross Shop which will hire out various aids - this shop has limited opening times. Please ask for details.

Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area


  • There is one step (H17cm x W107cm with 1cm draught excluder) at the front door (W107cm). The doorbell & door knocker are centrally situated on the door at a height of 155cm & 170cm respectively.
  • On entering the vestibule (W130cm x 150cm) with Victorian 'latch & fasten' double doors (W60cm each) which open into the carpeted hallway & stairs. The vestibule floor is tiled with a sunken (2cm) doormat. The fire alarm base station is located in the vestibule.
  • We do not have an alternative entrance.
  • Registration book and bell for assistance are located on shelf in hallway.
  • We do not have restricted opening hours. Guests are issued with a main door key along with their room key. All we ask is that guests show consideration for others during their stay with us, both in communal areas and within their own room.

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc


  • Flooring throughout the hall, landing & stairs is of short pile carpet.
  • Full 1/2 hour fire doors to lounge, dining-room & private quarters.
  • The main hall has access to the lounge. We lock this door at 11pm. The lounge has two sofa's. TV, video, dvd, table, nest of tables and a chair.
  • The main hall has access to the dining-room. Table settings have contrasting colour to table cloth.
  • Furniture is flexible & can be moved with proir notice.
  • We have 'backgound' music/radio on during breakfast.
  • We cater for all dietary needs. Prior notice is appreciated.
  • The main hall has access by two doors to our own private quarters.
  • There are 16 stairs, each H16cm x W86cm to the first floor landing (2m x 2.3m). Other than the bannister rail (H85cm) there is no other handrail.
  • There is a public toilet and wash-hand basin within the bathroom. This bathroom also has a standard size bath for the sole use of Room 6.
  • There is a table on this landing with a hand-bell for use if assistance is required. A fire extinguisher is next to the table.
  • To continue along the landing there is one step (H13cm x W85cm).
  • There are 14 stairs, each H13cm x W85cm to the second floor. At the top of these stairs there is a landing (2m x 1.7m) with a table with a hand bell for use if assistance is required. A fire extinguisher is next to the table.
  • To continue along the landing there are three steps (H16cm x W85cm).

Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc


The lounge has two settee's, TV, video & dvd player, table, nest of tables and a wooden chair. The short pile carpet is fully fitted. Centre ceiling lighting. Secondary lighting by lamps. The lounge door is locked at 2300hrs.

Public WCs


There is a public toilet and wash-hand basin within the bathroom on the first floor landing. The bathroom has a standard bath for the sole use of Room 6.

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area, Take Away & Cafe


  • The dining-room has individual tables and table settings have contrasting colour to the table cloth.
  • Furniture is flexible and can be moved with prior notice.
  • The dining-room has short pile fitted carpet.
  • There is a central ceiling light fitting.
  • We have background music/radio on during breakfast.
  • We cater for all diets. Prior notice is appreciated.

Laundry


  • Not available although we do have drying facilities - please ask.
  • There is a launderette within 5 minutes walking distance - please ask for details.

Leisure Facilities


  • Non available on premises.
  • Locally there are 2 golf courses, horse-riding, swimming.

Outdoor Facilities


We have a secure garage available for bikes and equipment.

Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas


  • All bedrooms have a double bed (H55cm) with access from both sides.
  • All bedrooms are carpeted (contrasting to walls) and have TV with remote control, wardrobe, chest of drawers/dressing table, tables with kettle & drink making facilities, fridge, hairdryer, guest information folder in magazine rack, and two armchairs.
  • All bedroom doors are 1/2 hour fire proof. All rooms have a smoke/heat detector which will activate the fire alarm system.
  • In the event of evacuation, secondary lighting will automatically guide you. Guests needing assistance will be helped if they wait on the landing.
  • All ensuites (located within bedroom) have a shower cubicle, toilet, wash-hand basin on pedestal with glass shelf, mirror, shaver point with light above.
  • All ensuite doors (W60cm) open outwards unless specified.
  • There are no seats or support rails in the shower. We do not have adapted WC's or emergency pull cords.
  • All ensuites have linoleum floor covering.

FIRST FLOOR BEDROOMS.

  • ROOM 1 - DOUBLE ROOM.
    • Shower cubicle - door W59cm, edge H14cm.
    • Toilet seat - H42cm.
    • Pedestal wash-hand basin - H79cm.
  • ROOM 2 - DOUBLE ROOM.
    • Shower cubicle - door W65cm, edge H13cm.
    • Toilet seat - H43cm.
    • Pedestal wash-hand basin - H78cm.
  • ROOM 3 - DOUBLE/TWIN/TRIPLE (Flexible) ROOM.
    • This room also has a single bed (H50cm). Access one side only.
    • Ensuite door (W60cm) opens outwards.
    • Shower cubicle has a folding door - opening W50cm.
    • Toilet seat - H43cm.
    • Wash-hand basin - H78cm.

SECOND FLOOR BEDROOMS.

  • ROOM 4 - DOUBLE ROOM.
    • Shower cubicle - sliding corner opening doors, edge H15cm.
    • Toilet seat - H43cm.

Grounds and Gardens


  • We have a large, flat driveway with open gate which we close each evening. There is a small walled garden to front. A paved path from pavement to front door has a gradient. Railings to side H100-112cm.
  • There is a garden bench with small tables for guests to use at the front of the house.

Additional Information


  • Assistance dogs allowed.
  • No smoking policy in guest house.
  • A full fire alarm system is installed.
  • We recycle all paper, glass, cans and plastic etc.
  • Mobile phone reception depends on your supply company.
  • We do not accept debit/credit cards. Payment by cash or cheque accompanied by a valid cheque guarantee card.

Future Plans


Lowther Guest House has just completed all it's alterations and has purchased all it's equipment. We will re-assess any future requirements/needs at a later date.
